How much is your phone plan/what features do you have.

So sometime in the next year or two I'm looking to upgrade myself to a phone that has internet/unlimited data, etc. I'm poking around and I was wondering who had the best price if I were to drop my current carrier RIGHT now and go with someone else.

Basically, I'd be looking for a full featured phone. For example the Nexus1, the iPhone, etc.

I would want unlimited data and about 700 minutes+Unlimited TXT.
For 2 phones.

I think the average price anywhere for this type of plan would be what?

-69.99 for coverage
-9.99 for the second phone
-30.00 for unlimited data per phone
-10.00 per phone for unlimited txt (why isn't this included in a data package?)

So with all the other fee's etc this is what 200 dollars?
Is there a more cost effective plan out there? a cheaper or easier way to get unlimited data and all that jazz?

I'd love to hear what everyone else has. At the moment I have Verizon, my bills are about 98$ a month for two phones, unlimited txt and 700 minutes.

Is it really worth it to have a phone that can go on the internet (even though I'm not using it for business.) for 100 bucks more a month? I feel like I'm getting juiced.

As a matter of fact...

I'm a metro pcs guy, never had a problem. Apparently they're doing new rates.

I'm looking to upgrade to a Samsung Code Smart Phone ($250 I think)

$50/month no contract for internet, unlimited local and long distance, some other extras.

That's what I'm excited about getting.

A Palm Pre from Sprint and 900 min + unlimited everything else (data, text, 1st party GPS navigation, all mobile-to-mobile calls, etc.,) is $89.99 + taxes & fees.

Ghetto-aSS Boost phone, unlimited calls and texts for $50. I always busted however many minutes I had on any plan I was ever on and it wasnt worth the trauma/drama when the bill came. So, I'm a Booster.

This is what I have. Though, my plan is only $69 bucks 450 minutes. Here is a huge selling point with respect to Sprint for me. Besides having anytime minutes start at 7pm (this is huge to me especially if Verizon is sticking with the 9pm start time, that's an additional 40 hours a month) Sprint also does NOT count minutes used UNLESS you are in roaming. In other words, if you are using Sprint towers, you NEVER get charged for minutes. So, in theory, you could talk for 2,000 minutes and as long as you don't go into roaming, you do not eat up the minutes from your plan. So, no favorite 5 or calling circle nonsense. That doesn't apply to Sprint. Also, they don't charge for roaming like when it used to be 40cents a minute. The only thing roaming costs you are minutes from your plan. That's it.

Plus, the Data plan is all-inclusive. Broadband/Wifi (depending upon the phone), GPS, unlimited TEXT, all moble-to-mobile regardless of carrier, 7pm anytime minutes and solid coverage.

Usually, when people on here ask opinions on what they have, we are all quick to chime in about our 'wonderful' selection to get you to agree with us, to validate our own buying choice. I get that. I am no different. But, I am really, really happy with Sprint. It's considerably cheaper than the other plans and I'm not sure why so many people bash them; which I hear a lot from my own family who have only had much more expensive Verizon plans.

The one knock on Sprint is that they are always 3rd in getting cool phones. We will not get the iPHONE in the near future. I would be very tempted to get the iPHONE and at first this realization annoyed me. But, then I realized that the more popular the phone, the more people are on that Broadband connection, the slower your access to the Internet. Forget that! I am happy with not having an iPHONE in favor of a very fast Internet connection. Having said that, I don't love the Palm Pre. But, that's a whole other discussion.

Oh and TV. I almost forgot to mention that. Sprint has a contract with the NFL. So, I have the NFL network, LIVE, right on my phone. I tested it out with a TV broadcast. It was in fact live, just 30 seconds ahead of the TV. This is cool to me because I love football. Plus, this came in handy. Earlier this year, I was able to watch an NFL game this season on my phone that you could have only watched with the paid NFL channel. That, to me, is wickedly cool.

We pay $200 a month for 4 blackberry's unlimited everything and Share 2000 minutes between us. Since we mostly talk to each other anyway it is a great plan. One that sprint does not have anymore I believe.

Isn't it amazing how cell phone companies have marketed us into believing that we NEED them bad enough we'd pay quadruple? It's a bit maddening to think that 10 years ago everyone had a land line phone and a single $50 dollar a month bill. Now, we willingly pay MUCH more than that because they've got everyone in the household paying a phone bill.

Competition is good.

I'm on a family plan with just phone calls - no data or text. My share is $15 a month. I don't need the Internet 24/7 to justfiy paying a ridiculous monthly bill.

I remember the days when cell phones were in bags and cost .50 a minute through celluar one. god forbid you started roaming. $200 for all 4 phones is not too bad. Or maybe I'm being tricked into thinking that.

Three phones sharing 1400 minutes a month, unlimited text, no data - about $120/month through Verizon but we get a hefty discount through my wife's work (17 - 20% I think).

Funny when people say things like "$89.99 plus taxes and fees". Man, here in CA, those taxes and fees really add up. In fact, I never look at the $89.99 number or whatever, I always look at the TOTAL, because that's a whole nother game :)

I got Verizon $29.99 for 300 peak minutes (free minutes if you call another Verizon phone, etc.) plus some texting (forget how much) - but here's the point: you can also email for free, so that's unlimited. Now the kicker: with taxes and fees, that $29.99 goes magically to $38.08. My wife has a Verizon blackberry that her work pays for, so we get the net that way - can't beat free. Can't imagine shelling out for massive dataplan. I'd go for an iPhone, but can't take AT&T.

Why would anyone pay more than $40.00 or $45.00 from Boost or Straight Talk for all you can eat everything? Just so they can have the latest "cool" phone? We are in a Recession kids, stop wasting your money on this pathetic need to have the coolest phone.

Well, for myself... I may be getting a job as an EMT/Paramedic in the the next 8 to 12 months when I finish school. So having access to the internet to look up medications/drugs and their uses could be helpful.
Also, for personal use. Finding directions to places, or buying movie tickets if I'm on the go, etc.

because you can't watch porn on a boost phone drift. sheesh.

How is coverage on BOOST?

I was gonna say a lot here but I realize the dude who sold me my phone could really have told me ANYTHING and I would not know any differently. BUT, I was told the Boost phones utilize the Nextel network and not the Sprint network... Nextel not being on the same level as Sprint (?). But I get good coverage around the state I live in, can make calls from places my Sprint phone would get no bars.

I forgot to say that with Boost, I also get free Nextel Walkie Talkie stuff, which I hate. My elderly mom likes to use it with me, but she doesnt get the whole "push to talk" thing. I keep wanting to tell her to use the words "over" and "roger that". :)

I don't need to have the coolest phone, but I did want a phone that gave me GPS, PIM (personal information management), a QWERTY keyboard, and a good web experience on the go. For me it wasn't about being cool but about being able to do common computing tasks w/o having to be at a computer.
