How much footage on sd cards?

How much footage do you get with 1080 24 on a 16gb sd card?

How long does it take to offload that 16gb card onto a macbook pro?

Just trying to figure out the logistics for an upcoming seminar.

You get approximately 5 minutes per gigabyte. So 16gb should give you about 80 minutes of footage. In reality you'll probably want to budget a little less, so count on at least 70 minutes per 16gb card.

A 16GB card will hold roughly 1.5 hours at your settings. One hour and thirty-eight minutes is what I usually have.

As for how long it will take to offload, that depends on your reader or if you use the internal card reader on the new macbooks. I use usb reader and it will transfer an almost filled 16GB card in about 15 minutes or so. Hope this helps!

Don't rule out changing the record settings in cam too, you'll get much longer record times from your cards,
seminars/keynotes etc dont always require highest bitrate video, so long as the audio is good, focus is sharp etc,

I have to shoot almost 11hours of footage for a seminar! What video settings do you suggest I use as the minimum so that I don't have to end up rendering over 160gb of footage.

I am thinking 720 @ 24. Are there any other settings I can adjust? I am recording audio separately on a zoom/lavs.

Also can anyone recommend an efficient workflow so that I don't go crazy in post dealing with all this footage and separate audio from a zoom?

Cheezus! Thats a long day
Best choice is to ask the AV guys for a direct feed into the cam via XLR, otherwise attach a wireless lav to the lectern mic but only if the speakers wont be walking around the stage,
if you go into scene file - i think the record quality settings are in there but i dont have the cam to hand

Is the camera locked down? If so you could try capturing directly to a computer.

Why on earth record audio separately? Just run the XLR cables straight to the camera... If you aren't moving around much you can explore HE mode, it's 1080/60i at only about 6mbps, so you'd get almost 4x as much record time.

Can someone please give a walk through on how to set that up and what settings to use. I tried YouTube with no luck

To set up XLR's to camera, plumb the XLR input (either wireless receiver or hard wire) into one XLR port, choose either LINE or MIC level input as appropriate for the source, and adjust audio level to suit.

To set up HE mode (test this before you use it, it is very compressed), MENU -> SCENE FILE -> REC FORMAT. There's also an HA mode (17Mbps) that may be a happy medium.

If for whatever reasons you need to record straight through, be aware that you cannot pull a full card while recording on the other like you can on the P2 cameras... in that situation, you'd need larger cards or HA/HE modes. FWIW, a pair of 64GB cards will record PH mode for just over 12 hours.

The AF's user manual (available online as a PDF) would be good for you to get
