How much difference does an HD lens make?

Has anyone used HD lenses with CAC on their HPX, as well as SD? I followed the lens thread, but really didn't get a clear answer as to whether an HD lens makes a significant difference. Supposedly the MTF is much higher, which is supposed to make a big difference, in addition to the CAC. If anyone has done projects with the HD lens as well as SD lens, I'd appreciate hearing what you think the difference is, if any.

Thanks for any input.

I think the most important factor is how good your SD lens is.

There are plenty of examples where an SD lens looked just as good as an HD lens.

But if cost comes into play, I often notice the SD lenses that look good (at the extremes F2, long end of the zoom range) often cost as much as an HD lens.

I went with a used Canon 20x Hd lens $5000 and it is sharp anywhere in its range.

The SD lens I had on before Canon J9.5x15 got really soft at F2.8

My point is that I would have had to spend $4000-$5000+ for decent enough SD lens (with a 20x range) anyway, so I went with an HD lens.

For what it's worth, I've been using a SD lens since April. I've been pleased but not satisfied. Most of the time the images look great. But after shooting documentary stuff for a bunch of months, I notice the occasional CAC issue. This seems to show itself in high contrast situations when the background is blown out over 100 ire and at certain focal lengths. Under good and perfect lighting situations, I have a hard time seeing any issues. From what I see and read, I think every SD lens has different results.

Because I already had a couple SD lenses, it made the 500 an easy transition and purchase. I do plan on purchasing an HD CAC lens before starting another major project. My advice is always the same.... I never regret spending too much money, but will always regret spending too little and having to spend again to correct the issue.

Good Luck
