How many of you are excited about DVCPRO 25 and 50?!

I personally think that this could be a great asset to all of us that we seem to be overlooking. Granted we could always record in HD and then downrez to keep color space, but DVCPRO 50 seems like a nice option as well.

anyone plan on using it? I'm definitely going to mess around with it.

It hasn't been overlooked, a lot of people have said the same thing. Personally, if I buy the camera I will probably shoot HD and downrez for most things because of the future proofing.

Yes i think many should benefit from shooting both 25 and 50 in some situation.

Not all work needs to be in hd and alot will just be shown on a small tv screen.

But I think many will shoot 720P just because you can shoot 24p at 40mbs.

i have a DVX and will keep it for the pure SD work, but it is certainly great to have the option. especially the DVCPro 50 might get used a lot until the HD format really is being used everywhere.

My main interest with the HVX 200 is SD 4.2.2; I will keep in mind it's HD uses but SD is where it's at for me.

There could be a lucrative home video market for HD content once set-top players become available. As in, ANY HD content.

There was a story about a guy who sold the rights to his family's Kung Fu videotape series in like 1993 for $25,000, figuring that the original 35mm prints laying in his apartment closet for the prior ten years weren't going to ever be of any value. Then, came DVD. The distributor who bought the rights (and, the actual film!) to his family's collection has since marketed the series worldwide as, "The Ultimate Kung Fu Collection" and has made millions.

It goes without saying, but HD footage will sell for more than SD, all things being equal...

I didn't know that SD had 4:2:2 color space? how are trhey able to fit that onto a 25mbs stream?! innnteresting! has this been confirmed?

As Shaw stated, they can't it's called:
DVCPRO-50 (50 Mbps) (Intraframe)

DVCPRO50 and DigiBeta and MPEG-IMX are all standard-def systems that record 4:2:2 color. DigiBeta is about 90mbps, DVCPRO50 and MPEG-IMX are both 50 megabits.

DV and DVCPRO25 and HDV are all standard-def systems that record 4:2:0 or 4:1:1, and are 25 megabits or less.
