Hope i'm posting this in the right place. I was just wondering what the cut off point would be for you guys if you were buying a used 100a? I know it depends on how the owner cared for it etc.. but I'm sure you could still throw me a round about number. I'm not sure how many hours the heads can take etc.. and theres gotta be someone here that does. Any info is appreciated. thanks!

Re: How many hours is too many on a used DVX

total hours used would undoubtedly affect the selling price.
the more hours on it, the less it's worth.
as a rule of thumb (from someone who has been in electronics retail for 15 years) if it's a year old, it's worth half price, maybe a bit more if it's in pristine shape.

if it were me, personally, i would probably pay about half price for a used dvx100a if it had up to 200 hours on it.

side bar: but i only buy new gear !!! ::)

hope this helps.

Re: How many hours is too many on a used DVX

Bought a dvx with 63 hours on it. (got myself a great deal)
In just a few days that went up to 70 hours. If you are up for testing, shoot excluding the tape. That way your mechanism isn't rotating and your hours are static. Now if you do shoot with the tape, the head hours will sum up even if you do not record, meter is based on the head rotation. So anytime you are in "pause" you are still putting wear and tear on those sugar heads heh.

thanks guys. I'd be all for new gear cursed, but the budget doesn't allow it. I had a dvc80 that I sold to move up to the dvx, so I'm in the market for a used one for now. after coming here and seeing the footage posted I couldn't deal with the 80 any longer :/ thanks again for the input though!

Re: How many hours is too many on a used DVX

Somewhere in the manual I think it mentions something that around 1000 hrs they recommend head and other part replacements. Does 1000 seem like a low number for a head replacement? Any idea of how much that costs?

Re: How many hours is too many on a used DVX

I don't know how much it costs to get them replaced, but it doesn't seem completely out of the question - I use my DVX a lot, I have about 250 hours on the heads, but I've had it for almost a year now.
So if the camera lasts me four years before I need to change the heads, that's not too bad in my books - I'll probably be wanting a new camera by then anyways :P
