How many hours has your dvx100?

Re: How many hours has your dvx100?

Meter reads 121, but considerable footage has been recorded through the cam rather than on tape. Reading meters is fine, but the electronics/lens mechanics, etc. are not metered as far as I know, only the tape path.

Re: How many hours has your dvx100?

it only measures the headtime, not even tapetime. so once the cam is turned on it counts. i got mine with 21 hours. i played with it a few hours and it reads 25 although i only recorded about 20 minutes.

Re: How many hours has your dvx100?

if it only measures headtime, how can it measure when the cam is in standby? does it?
in other words, when you turn on the power and can look through the viewfinder, but are not recording, the clock is ticking?
sort of frightening...

Re: How many hours has your dvx100?

barry has to answer this one, i am pretty sure it is only when you are recording.

anyway, my dvx-100a has just over 200 hours.

my new one i just got has like minutes but i had surgery and haven't been able to shoot anything since i got it but i plan on shooting a TON of stuff in the next six months - year

Re: How many hours has your dvx100?

my cam definitely counts the standbytime. i have now recorded 30 minutes and the clock added 6 hours since i got it. it probably counts the time when the tape is "charged". so if you have the setting to "auto power off" then it counts every minute it is on. when it does "release tape" and stays in standby then it might stop counting. i need to try that out.

Re: How many hours has your dvx100?

The hour merer refers ONLY to the head. If you plug in your camera and leave it there without a tape in it the meter will stay at 0. Having said that, I don't see what's the concern...

then how can the guy above have logged 6 hours when he only shot 30 min. on the tape?

Re: How many hours has your dvx100?

Really, don't worry about it. The camera is quite rugged and can handle roughly 3000 hours on the heads. Shoot to your heart's content.

We've just replaced heads on a camera after 174 hours. The problem is called dust and lack of care. Dust inside the transport can easily end up on the tape and there becomes the most effective sandpaper. Remember thet the heads speed is around 9.9 meters per second (that's about 33 ft/sec). Try to smack your head with a pebble coming at that speed and you'll see what I mean.

One more thing - camera counts head-hours. This means how many hours heads have spinned on tape, regardless of tape movement. You can record 30 seconds and have 100 hours on the heads if you try hard...

Mine has 200 on it...I've used 1 hour on it.

I bought it used for $500 Canadian...

Best deal of my life.
