How many GBs per minute out of the HD-SDI?

I think that will vary upon the type of codec you are recording to... like Pro Res HQ or others. I'd expect it to be atleast a gig a minute or higher.

It depends what format you are recording to.

Straight to computer, I think 8-bit Uncompressed 1080p23.98 is 95 MB/s (760mbps), which calculates out to 5.7 GB/min, or 342 GB/hr.

ProRes 422 HQ with the Ki Pro would be 22 MB/s (176mbps), which calculates out to 1.32 GB/min, or 79.2 GB/hr.

Thanks guys.

Will recording it to Pro Res give you a practically loss less image?

Because 5GB per minute is kind of unpractical at the moment.

check out the aja website and their datarate calculator. it will answer all your questions in recording length/size.

Pro Res is a compressed, visually lossless codec. It's really good, but it depends on what your standard for quality is. Pro Res does lose information, you may not see it with your naked eye, but when you get into a really technical workflow, especially with intense visual effects applications, pro res can still fall apart on you faster than high end formats. One of the best formats I've ever seen is probably Cineform 444. They call it Mastering codec for a reason.
