HI! (here is a very dumb question of mine)

I have been researching this and have received different answers so i wonder whats is people her using avid considering the best alternative.

Whe i burn a film in a dvd to send to festival is used to have calibration color bars at the beginning. ITs also used to have a test tone of 1kh.

My question is how many db???

MAny comment on that as its digitla in AVID so one doesnt choose the too loud 0DB option in AVID (with the signal generator audio effect) But:

some says: -20 db (actually the default value in the signal generator pluggin)
some say: -18 db (swedish television educational programs)
otehr says : -12 db

I know that the best way is to ask whcih standard to they prefer (as in the case with swedish television) but i wonder with other more general festivals. Which is the general rule of thumb in this cases?

So as you know one should calibrate the whole movie to this valued.
I have asked some festvials and have received different answers and sometimes no answers ;) ...

My second question:
.... but well i wonder also..wlhich of this DB value is the nearest to a TV standard so as to be sure of a better result if any given person would switch directly to the film without test signals.

Th ebest answer as you pointed out is to ask. -12 or -14 seem to be the norm in most cases. Make sure you label whatever it is on the tape and box before sending out.
