How long will an HVX last?

How long can these cameras last?

How many hours on the heads before the HVX is worn out?

Provided it is well cared for. Thnx.

Well, in P2 mode, there are no heads and nothing to wear out.

The tape heads should be good for around 2,000 hours or so.

On the HD side of an HVX, the only motorized or moving parts aside from buttons, switches, and the LCD cover are the zoom/focus/iris servos and the OIS image stabilizer. I'd expect it to go for many trouble-free years...

I will have 3 years of use on my HVX200's. They were used for almost a year of everyday use in a commercial setting, and now they get used regularly, but not everyday. I just got them back from repair at specc-comm, and they work just as good as the day they were brand new. One piece of advice is to remove the battery when you transport the camera. I had an accident 3 months ago with my production trailer and that is the reason the both had to go to specc-comm, there were no battery tabs left on either camera from that one, but other than that they have been flawless!

The connectors are fragile too. Care must be taken with all of them - D4 component video, audio, headphone, firewire, etc. All are consumer grade except for the XLR mic inputs, and are a big expensive hassle to fix.

Go for the HPX-170 ! It has a 5 YEAR WARRANTY !
That's because there is no tape recorder. Give it a shot !
