How long does it take to export your short film from your NLE?

My six minute entry takes well over an hour, probably close to two. I'm using Premiere Pro CS3.
Is this normal? This is with all the effects shots and grading included. Raw footage is WAY faster.

What times are you getting?

Mike

Mine's around 2 hours. Maybe even more. What NLE are you using? Are you exporting with all the grading finished or do you do that in something else?

I use FCP 6.0 and I convert after grading. I stopped using Magic Bullet and only CC with the wheels in FCP so it cuts my time down but Almost 2 hours for 6 minutes is still a lot. I HATE the conversion process. One day we look back on these times and laugh.

About 30 minutes exporting from a 1080p Prores 4444 timeline. I've been happy with the new prores codecs released last year, they're very fast.

Editing in the original .avi format, takes about 25-30 minutes in Vegas 9.0. That's with colour correction throughout, and a bit of track motion.

Had to render everything to Avid DNxHD, then render a quicktime. The whole process took around 45 minutes. 25 or so to output from Avid, and then another 20 to export in Quicktime Pro.

Vegas 9 Pro....AVCHD files 1280x720...CC and all effects (audio & video). I first render to a new track (uncompressed AVI)...then use that to create QT versions.

New track render takes about 9-12 minutes (for a 6 minute film).

New track to QT mp4 takes about 3 minutes.

Maybe you should cut down on the THOUSAND audio track you have before rendering? LOL!

Well, mine takes about 20 minutes to export from FCP. But I also already rendered all of my fx/titles/color onto the footage in AE beforehand. So as far as FCP is concerned, it is raw footage. Also I just upgraded to a quad core machine with 16gb of ram... so... that probably helps too :) . However, for the 12 minute cut of my film, rendering out the intro titles sequence (which is far more complex in the long cut) is currently going to take 35 hours to render out of AE... oi vey!

However, I should mention that on my 4gb macbook pro, it took me about 2 hours to export at 9 minute film out of FCP about a month ago... and I didn't consider that too crazy. Can't wait to see the films guys!

'bout an hour twenty from Vegas Pro with compositing, grading, titles, etc. On a relatively slow core2duo 2.13ghz.

h.264 seems to be a killer, but HD is also pretty bad.

For those using FCP, fwiw I always export my FCP timeline as a QT then use compressor. Always found it much faster that way.

A five minute graded clip (after render), takes about 30 seconds to export "as quicktime" and then compressor takes around 5 minutes.

Holy crap that's fast!

I hope CS5 shows some improvement over CS3. :(

QtPro is still compressing for me as I speak. Total time just for that will be around an hour when it's done.

Yeah, just keep in mind I render before the export. So thats additional time as the export doesnt have to handle all that.

Also my edit suite is very fast, but its designed for red workflow, so it absolutely has to be when its hired.
