How long till AF100 gets down to $3000 or so?

I think that the ability to do firmware updates will also extend the value of the AF-100. We've only had one so far and that update was pretty valuable.

(put your fingers in your ears Jan :-) ).. I actually think they could sell the AF100 for more. 5k is a very good price point for what the camera does. By the time you trick out
a 5D to do video-ish things, you're well above a AF100 with a lens adapter for your glass. IMHO, it's priced right .. maybe even aggressively so. Maybe they'll throw goodies
at it in the future.

I wouldn't hold my breath, but maybe in 2 to 3 years you could get a used AF100 with a ton of hours on it for around that $3k mark...if that's what you want.

" though the AF-100 is small enough to barely fit in a bag underneath the front seat on an airplane."

This is hardly true, just got back from a fast and furious shoot at the Grand Canyon with the AF100, taking four airplanes in three days in the process. I keep it in a Storm IM2450 case along with four lenses, GH2, batteries, chargers and adapters. The case rode comfortably above my head in the overhead compartment all four flights without a single problem.

I agree it will be a few years before the used market gets that low, get something you can afford today and start shooting.

Hey brad just curious, I was looking at a Storm IM2700 a few mins ago and was wondering if there's a major difference to your 2450 model? I'm going to have pretty much the same thing you listed inside mine as well.

I thought about this thread while I was out and about today... My advice to the OP (and those in his position) is this: don't wait 3-5 years for this camera to get into your price range... look 3-5 years back and buy the greatest camera you lusted for a few years ago. That camera is still as great as it was then - only it's 75% off. In 3-5 years will you be able to pick up an AF100 for $3k? Probably. But you won't want to. Because everybody will be just back from NAB and talking about some 3D camera that shoots direct to YouTube and it'll be $6k, and you'll want that instead.

3 years ago the Sony Z1U was the top-end "prosumer" HDV camera. It has been a workhorse. They go on eBay all the time now for $2200. It produces nice images. Clients will love it. Don't waste your life wishing for the next great thing you can't afford, find the great thing you can afford and buy that.

Simple divide to two questions
1. When the dealer gives more dicsount on the price
2. When Panasonic will decrease the Grossprice.
to 1 As long there are still waiting lists and backorders it will not happen.
to 2 Af 100 fits so perfectly in the market that I even think AF 100 Fs 100 , F3 could come from the same company without hurting there segment too much.
So no nned for Pana to reduce in general.
So realistic there will be a small decreae about a few hundrets may be by end of 2012.
For me more intersting.
When Pana brings an AF 150 with 10 bit SDI out and maybe a real video sensor. Maybe after NAB 2012 will show up, because after the NAB is before the NAB.

At least I hope Pana comes up with a small enhned version, which can done without major change in design.

The Sony not having ND's is far from a deal breaker. ND is easy to implement..

Not a deal breaker for you, but a deal breaker for others.

Me, I love being able to turn a dial, even mid-shot. Can't do that with a screw-on or a mattebox, though maybe a quality vari-ND comes close to the convenience, not sure.
