How is this done?

Can someone please explain this? Im trying to lean how to do it.

OK, what you need to do is get yourself two big pieces of black cardboard... just kidding.

You should be able to do something like this in most any editing program. I'd be doing it in AfterEffects simply by animating two masks which start right in the centre of the screen and move out. You could probably even get away with doing this with a transition.

Which editing program are you using?

After Effects is probably the easiest way (either use masks or even just animate to black shapes off the screen). Pretty basic stuff.

However, You could use a basic split/slide transition as Andrew said from most editing programs between a black slug and your footage.

Transition from a slug to footage with a Center Wipe with a 90 degree angle on it. Adjust length for timing.
