How is the newer (unhackable) GH1 different from the older (hackable) GH1?

I've read that the new (unhackable) GH1 is better than the old (hackable) GH1. What exactly is different between the two?

Supposedly the firmware version 1.34 which is not available outside the service centers fixed some bugs. Perhaps even the biggest one involving Fixed Pattern Noise also known as banding.

Actually, the banding is still an issue but with the auto settings that have recently surfaced the camera does surprisingly well.

Have you even tried the new settings that are floating around on the forums yet? Mostly for low light shooting, but pretty amazing nonetheless. Don't knock it till you try it. Not for all purposes, but works great in a pinch especially for run and gun.

Nothing. Aside from random unit variations typical of consumer electronic production runs, no one to my knowledge has ever pinpointed any functional differences among GH1 units. In the newer units, the built-in firmware upgrade capability has simply been disabled.
