How is the Image Stabilization on the DVX100-Second Try

I'm getting ready to upgrade from a SONY TRV 900.

I'm debating between the Panasonic DVC 30 and the DVX 100.

I need good image stabilization. The combo of a slight hand tremor and lots of travel videography where a tripod would be a hindrance and classroom videography where it would be a distraction makes this a very important feature for me.

Any input appreciated re the image stabilization performance of these two camcorders.

I have a DVX100a. The image stabilization is great. I tested it by tensing up my arms and making them...making them quake (MUCH more than slight hand tremor would)....The image remained perfectly still AND it doesn't lower resolution (at least I didn't notice it at all). I heard this is because the DVX does it optically instead of doing it digitally.

your right.. its an optical stabilize instead of a cut-crop-stable-stretch digital method. This is very good and the dvx's is very good.. way better than the TRV900.

What about the DVC 30?

What about the DVC 30?

Do any of you know the quality of the stabilization on the DVC 30? Is it the same exact mechanism as the DVX100?

I know how much better the 100 is, but am looking at the difference in weight and price re my needs.

Thanks.

I have both cams and the DVC30 image stab is pretty good as well. If you'll be doing a lot of hand held the DVC30 being smaller and lighter will be a help as well. But don't think the DVC will approach the DVX in picture quality. Smaller CCDs and no true progressive mode leaves it lacking compared to the DVX but should still be much better than the TRV.
