How is the D7000 AF-F supposed to work?

Hello all,

I hope someone might be able to help me. I enter liveview with af-f set and it will focus on my first subject, but when I move it does not refocus on the new subject until I halfway depress the shutter. Is this correct?

I have af-f enabled and set to normal. I cant seem to find anything on how it is supposed to work, and hope someone can help.

I am also using a Nikon 35mm 1.8, so its not a third party lens issue.

Regards,

AF-F is essentially continuous autofocus. You just need to place your focus point on the area you wish it to focus on. Make sure your lens is switched to "A/M" non "M", and that the switch on the camera body is set to "AF". Happy shooting!

Look at the manual. Pages 50 and 51 are helpful. But to get a good understanding of how to use the different modes, use them under favorable conditions. Read the box at the bottom of page 51 for a list of unfavorable conditions. In short, it will work best in well-lit situations on a subject with lots of contrast. If you test or try to learn under any other conditions you may get confused. Something Nikon doesn't mention is the live-view AF is not nearly as sensitive as the excellent regular AF that works when you are using the optical viewfinder. So if you are used to any DSLR AF, don't expect the live-view to work nearly as quickly, nor nearly as well in difficult conditions.
