How, exactly, can I get some of my stuff onto IMDB?

With how easy it is to get on imdb, why are you spending so much time/effort seeking it out? I certainly don't give any legitimacy to someone who provides me with an imdb page. My advice is, no one's REALLY going to care, so just let it happen when it happens. Besides, wouldn't you rather get onto imdb with a quality piece of work that's earned its way on there, than exploiting loopholes and oversights with something that probably doesn't deserve to be on there?

Sono, why do you assume what he wants to post on IMDB doesn't deserve to be there and isn't high quality? Using Withoutabox isn't a loophole at all. Going the "let them find it" route can take a very long time. No reason to not speed that up, and in the end there is ZERO difference between the two listings.

You don't have to be IN a film festival, you only have to SUBMIT to a qualifying festival via withoutabox. All of my narrative films have IMDB pages. They qualified for a page as soon as I submitted them to a festival. They all actually did play festivals, but got their pages as soon as I entered.

It's not a "loophole", it's a marketing tool by IMDB and Withoutabox (who are subsidiaries of the same company I believe). It is what it is. You have a completed film you think enough of to pay the price of admission.

I wasn't commenting on his piece in particular, because I haven't seen it, but rather the general request of his initial post, without respect to the suggestions offered (particularly the withoutabox thing). He asked for easiest ways to get his film placed on there, seemingly toward non-traditional routes, suggesting looking for loopholes. And even still, while some of the suggestions have been legitimate avenues, many of them have been tailored for just getting your film on there whether it really "should" be or not.

So sorry if it sounded like I was saying his film was low quality or that all of the suggestions thus far have been loopholes, I was merely pointing out that it's maybe not something you should exactly be striving for, but instead just let it happen when it happens, because I at least don't see much benefit in it besides being able to show all your friends that you totally make for realsies movies.

Or, another way of saying it is... instead of focusing on imdb, focus on making good movies.

"show all your friends that you totally make for realsies movies."

Or potential clients.
Or potential crew members.
Or potential Actors.
Or potential financiers.

Being able to say "And here are the IMDB pages for my previous films" certainly doesn't hurt. I even pay the extortion money to have a poster on the page generally. In the "biz" I think most people know it doesn't mean THAT much, but to people who aren't it carries a certain weight.

Crew members and actors certainly hound me to make sure they get their credit and their name is correct, so THEY seem to care.

I often check people out on IMDB as a preliminary. It's a bit more focused than just searching for them on Google, and it's just one of many things that you can do to see someone's bona fides.
