How, exactly, can I get some of my stuff onto IMDB?

So, I've been doing tons of research the last couple days to figure out how to get some of my stuff onto IMDB. I'm seeing all different people at different periods in time claim how to get onto IMDB and I can't seem to find a straight-forward way of getting on.

I realize their requirements, but I've seen stuff on IMDB that do not meet those requirements. I've read a few ways of bumping on, like having a screening at a film festival, etc. But again, I have seen stuff on IMDB that hasn't been in festivals.

Can someone fill me in on a straight-forward method of adding a film of mine?

Thanks

The easiest way is to submit your short or feature to one of the Withoutabox imdb partner festivals. Most are around $25 and the second they acknowledge receipt of your film (they don't have to screen you) you get a free page.

Do these festivals only come around at certain times?

And what if I were to have a page started from something else? Then would I be able to start adding my own stuff from there?

I once made a short film as the DP. Never got sent to any film festival or to anyone in 'Hollywood'.
I still got that IMDB credit, no idea how.

Rise Up? You didn't put it on there? Wonder how it got on there then.

See, this isn't what I'm understanding. It seems so hard for some, yet so easy for others.

With enough pushing, they will do anything. I know a few people who test IMDB for fun. They have been listed as associate producers, actors, or random crew on big films that shot before they were even living in LA. They don't do it to lie to others and get work, they do it just for fun, to see what they can get away with... and it appears they can get away with just about anything. IMDB's research and verification process is a joke. It's one step away from Wikipedia... and that one step is likely an underpaid clerk with 0 knowledge of the film industry. They just enter names into a database.

I bet if you try to submit your film and just say that it was in a festival in Mexico or something, it will get posted in no time. If they say no, just try again. The membrane that separates films that get it and films that don't is as thick as jelly. Just push and it will get through.

Create a free account on withoutabox (they are owned by IMDB) and check the list. There are constantly festivals you can submit to that are IMDB free page qualifying. I just did this with a short I produced and had a page in less than a week. Very simple and about $25 (depending on the festival).

Yeah, the best way is to submit your film to festivals using Withoutabox. Everything I've ever done has gotten an IMDB credit this way.

RPO: That's hilarious. Haha. I'm going to try the Mexican film festival idea.

Do I need a pro account to submit films / start a page?

Snazzy Flapper & hscully: Thanks for the recommendation. How do these festivals work?

And again, will I need an IMDB Pro account for this?

No, I don't currently have an IMDB pro account. IMDB Pro is fun but when I last had it it was $99 so I don't have it anymore. Even so my films have been submitted to imdb as soon as they are under consideration for a film festival. Another benefit to the collaboration with IMDB and Withoutabox is that you can submit a private "online screener" and and Electronic Press kit which you can submit right over the web without having to mail a DVD.

Awesome! I was dreading having to mail DVDs.

Even if a film doesn't get accepted to a film festival, is an IMDb page still made for it?

Yes...just by virtue of having entered the fest you get to make a page for your film. There are a few things that suck though. YOU have to enter all that info, no one does it for you. Last time i did it it was a long and confusing process. The way some of the fields are worded on their form its hard to tell what theyre asking for. Also, entering festivals and awards youve been in/won...if you cant show them irrefutable proof you were in this or that fest or won an award, they wont list it. Sometimes, even if you do prove it, it never shows up and you never hear why. Also, they only acknowledge the existence of a handful of fests.

One frustrating thing that happened back in 2007, I went through hell to try and get one of my short films on there for a year straight and had no luck. Then in 2008 i was able to get my feature film on there because it got into a "qualified" film festival. So now because of my name being already on their site, my 2nd feature film got on there in 2011 without my knowledge, I just saw it on there one day, but I think it was only because I submitted it to a festival on withoutabox, but it didn't get into any festivals.

And here's the weird part, my short film I tried to enter back in 2007 mysteriously appeared on there 4 years later lol. IMDB is weird.

I'm fine with having to add the information in.

I just added my recent pilot episode of a web series as a project on Withoutabox; so now I just enter it into a festival and I should have an IMDb page for it?

Okay, so I just submitted the film to IMDb. How can I track the submission to know whether it gets accepted or rejected?

They should email you. If you have an account, log-in, click on your account in the upper right, then under "History" table on the right, "View your update history."

They'll send you an email and they automatically accept it. Just takes them a while. I think I waited a week for the last film.
