How does this strobe effect be achieved?

seems to be flashing lights (from the club) and rolling shutter of a DSLR

most people try to avoid the look, but you are lucky .. it comes free with most affordable cameras

Yea, it could be a strobe light timed with the shutter of the camera. But as @morgan_moore said. Its probably a camera "fault" used to someone's benefit.

really !
I will be shooting with a RED one and a 7D as B camera.

So I can probably shoot it with fast shutter speed to get this effect?
I am not a big fan of this effect, but the artist seem to want it so bad.

Its not fast shutter, its just how the lights work

so for it to happen you need the 'right' lights

you gotta go and test

S

you need the right camera too.

It wont happen with a global shutter camera and the effect will be different with different rolling shutter cameras.

Rolling shutter cameras have different refresh rates, independent of shutter speed, eg D90 is slow and expensive cameras faster..

Really its luck and testing I guess..
