How does the PDW-F330 XDCAM HD stand now against HPX500/170

I just saw a PDW-F330 XDCAM HD come up on my local classified. I've been looking at cameras for a feature I want to shoot in November... Also looking at the HPX500, the rumoured HPX300 or possibly two HPX170s.

I don't know anything about this Sony, although I like the fact that it shoots on discs. How does it hold up these days? And what would be a great price on a low hours used one?

Well the HPX500 was just rated Silver by Discovery along with the 335's big brother the 700 4:2:2 Disc camera. I think long term you would be better with the HPX500 as it is a 2/3" camera with an I frame Codec.

Best,

Jan

Jan -

Is there any release or hard copy on that from Discovery that could be used on our web sites to promote the use of the HPX500?

I am sure that as Discovery updates thier production deliverables document, it would be in there. It was only announced this week Wednesday to the group of producers in attendance.

Damn the luck, I sent an email to someone Tuesday saying the 500 was in the bronze category. I'll let him know.

Jan, can you post a current list of what Panasonic camera's are in what category?

This is big news, as I always thought the 500 was a Bronze level camera, or as one Sony devotee called it, "a glorified HVX." This needs its own thread.
Is it cleared for 100% acquisition? And this means Discovery HD, correct?
To be fair, the Sony 700 is also a 2/3" camera.

Van, my understanding is any camera in the silver category is cleared for 100% acquisition.

But who cares, lets go shoot some good content on a hv20, disco will air it providing it's good content.

I wish Planet Earth was shot on the new hpx 3000 (Gold baby!)... Man, that would be sweeeeeetttt.

Hey Jan,

"Planet Storm" project is coming up :)

Could I please borrow an hpx 3000 from April 1 to July 1? I'd love to show everyone how bad Red is with the CMOS in these conditions.

Yes it is cleared. for 100% acquisition, all Silver cameras are. And yes this is Discovery HD. Yes there is real magic in the HPX500, the guys at the BBC said, it looks better than it has a right to, but I like the silver rating best as that just says it. It is a great camera and it makes great pictures for a great price.

As a HPX500 owner, I've always known this camera takes great pictures.

Thats all Ive ever cared about. But good to know I have something to add from a marketing perspective. Australia is like a Sonycentric pit.
