GH5 How does the GH5s 240fps Mode Work?

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody could tell me how you shoot in the 240fps mode on the GH5s?

I am now using a Sony RX10 II which has a 2 second buffer which can be set to pre or post record when you hit the record button. I find the post record is really useful but was wondering about the GH series and if this approach even exists in their cameras. Thanks!

If it works like previous GH cameras, then it does not pre-buffer. That's the bad news, cause that is a nice feature. The good news is that unlike many Sony's, it can record more than a burst, it can continuously record 240fps until your SD card fills-up.

Thanks for your reply. If anybody who was a beta tester on the GH5s could chime in that would be great. I actually like having the pre-determined shot length for certain applications but I am sure others benefit from the longer takes.

A follow up: I have seen videos stating the GH5 does not record an audio track during hfr capture. Does the GH5s record audio during the 240 fps capture? Thanks

No audio. 240fps is "hfr" or "vfr". You only get audio at "base" frame rates: 24, 25, 30, 60

Out of curiosity, what would you do with audio at 240 fps? Or real time playback of 240 fps? There is no consumer display device that can even display that frame rate.

Thanks. Have you worked with the GH5s directly as your previous post seemed like you were going off the GH5. I would sometimes be using the 240fps in a sports setting where the hfr are recording along with another camera. An audio track recorded at normal speeds could serve as a backup if the main camera had issues. Basically thinking that anytime you are rolling it is nice to have audio if you should need it. But the audio would not need the speed change, just at the base rate for the roll time.

No I have not handled the GH5s, but as a GH3/GH4/GH5 user, I can speak fairly confidently about how Panasonic handles vfr. The GH5s software is minimally changed from the GH5, not a new feature set. (In fact, some of the menu items are there but greyed-out.)
