GH4 How does the GH4 with the shogun attached compare with the BMPC?

I always wanted to know what would happen if you compared the image quality of the GH4 with an Atomos Shogun attached with that of the BMPC (assuming you shot the BMPC in 10 bit ProRes HQ mode).

How would the 10 bit 4K ProRes of the GH4/Shogun stack up with that of the BMPC?

Also, if you upgraded the GH4 with the update that increases the stops to 12, would the picture quality be pretty neck and neck if you looked at both cameras side to side?

This is assuming that you would record externally with the GH4, not internally.

Nope. Not very close at all.
The dynamic range will be "similar" but Blackmagic color science is very different from Panasonic's.
Exactly where the dynamic range is allocated makes a big difference too.
For example- the Digital Bolex has more of its DR allocated to the shadows and Blackmagic allocates more to the highlights.
Even paired up as you suggest - the BMPC is going to look a lot more cinematic and the GH4 will still look like your GH4...just a little cleaner.

Then again to play devils advocate, one might argue that with everything else being equal, as in same experience crew, same controlled lighting, same experienced colorist, one would be hard to tell one camera shot from the other. Which in fact happens all the time. :love4:
