In 720p mode it stores exactly the frames you need, with no pulldown or duplicate frames, so yes it's exactly 23.976 progressive scan.
In 1080 mode it stores the frames as Progressive-Segmented Frame, the same way that the DVX, XL2, SPX800, SDX900, DSR450WS, and every other 60i-based codec system do. The same way that film gets transferred to video. So you have 23.976 progressive frames which get split into fields and recorded within the 60i data stream using 2:3 pulldown.
Think of it as progressive footage being carried around in an interlaced basket.
So in Final Cut Pro there is a 1080i23.98 DVCPRO setting. Why is it "i" and not "p?" I want to capture footage from D5 but our Raid can't handle uncompressed HD. I want to use the DVCPRO codec. Is this true 23.98?
At work we have a AJ-HD1200A. When I lay off footage I shoot on my HVX I can only lay off to 59.94. Why is this? Is this merely a throwback to the early days of HD shooting and acquisition?
If I lay off footage to this deck I can remove the extra frames later during recapture to get back to my original 23.98 sequence correct?
But when I look at the properties of video I shoot on the spx800 (regardless if shot at 24p or 24pa) the fps are always 59.97fps NTSC. So do I keep it that way during the P2 ingesting process to Vegas 7c and keep Vegas at NTSC 59.97 too and then output at 23.97fps wilth pulldown 2-3 ?
