Suppose I was to go and buy a used D7000 off eBay, would I be able to use the warranty card if need be? Does Nikon keep a record of who buys cameras and not allow you to transfer the warranty?
Sorry, cant help. I did try to register my d7000 on Nikon's web site when purchased and it says no registration is necessary. You probably just need the original purchase receipt.
Warranty cards don't mean anything. When you are claiming for a repair under warranty you need to provide proof of purchase (i.e. an invoice, purchase order, or receipt). If you can't provide something like that for the camera, they have no obligation to perform the repair under warranty as they have no method of knowing whether the camera is still within the warranty period or not.
