How does it record 1/15 sec shutter at 24fps?

Hey,

The longest shutter on the HMC is 1/15 second. That means that the shutter would be open longer than the frame lasts at 24fps/30fps/60fps. How exactly does that work? Do you get a blend of two frames in each frame?

Thanks.

you're confusing shutter speed with frames per second. You can have the shutter open for different amounts of time...1/15 of a second usually creates a smear effect in other cameras. you'll brighten your image by keeping the shutter open longer.

What he is saying is that frames are shot every 1/24th of a second and he is wondering how that works if the shutter is open for 1/15 of a second which is longer than and individual frame lasts.

He is looking for you to explain the mechanics of it all.

When you shoot 1/15 on an HVX, you get duplicated frames. At 1/15 you can't have more than 15 unique frames so the camera holds the shutter open and gives you the full 1/15 exposure. If the recording format demands more fps, like 60p would, then the last frame is continually repeated until the new frame is ready.
