How does HVX SD compare to DVX SD?

I'm specifically wanting to know how the low light noise levels compare between the two cameras if BOTH are shooting 60i, Standard Def to tape. How do the cameras noise levels compare?

I'd like to use the HVX to film standard definition - if the noise levels are the same as the DVX, then I know what I'm going on.

Thanks for anyone who can inform.

I haven't compared the tape results of the DVX to HVX, but have shot HVX and XL1 in poor light. Simply stated, the XL1 was much better. So I'm sure the DVX smokes it.

But man, I just shot two sets of 1080i jazz at Yoshi's in Oakland - looks bloody amazing. The HVX is an incredible HD camera...no doubt.

The DVX has an ISO of about 500, the HVX 320. So it goes without saying the DVX is a better low light SD camera. However if there is enough light then the HVX is a few Db cleaner without gain. And of course, it's HD too.

I've just edited some SD DV25 footage taken with a DVX and a HVX and can safely say that the HVX is better in terms of optics, DSP, longer zoom and native 16:9 capability.

However in poor light it probably won't be as good.

That reminds me, how much ISO does +3db gain add?

XL1 better than the HVX in low light?

I worked with an XL2 and didn't really like the low light performance that much.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the low light performance of the HVX was better than the DVX? And what about all those comments on how the HVX "is basically a DVX crammed inside of it for SD"?

For someone without an industrial strength lighting kit, should I be concerned?
