How does color space affect video?

Does choosing a color space in the camera affect video?

I've read that the color profile is not embedded in DSLR video files, but if this is true how do you manage the color in Premiere Pro, Final Cut or Photoshop? What if you export a still photo from a video--do you just assign it a color space and go from there?

It's my understanding that video from the GH1 uses sRGB color space and isn't user adjustable (I think it says that somewhere in the manual). Importing a still frame into photoshop and assigning a color space should be no problem.

The manual claims the Adobe RGB mode doesn't affect video but it certainly does, there have been many comparisons to confirm this.

Thanks for alerting me to that thread. I don't think they ever came to a conclusion, did they?

Seems like it. If a subject takes ten pages of discussion, then there usually aren't any clear cut answers.

As far as color space is concerned, I wouldn't obsess over it unless you're a professional colorist whose job is to match exact shades. But if having wide gamut is a concern for you, then the GH1 with its 8-bit color and high compression is probably not the kind of camera you should rely on.
