How do you white balance for night shooting?

I want to shoot around a downtown area at night. Lots of colored lights, ect. I've gotten really good colors before and gotten really yellowey grainy garbage too. Usually this is based on what I white balanced to when I used my camera previously. I tried white balancing in the dark, and surprisingly, that doesn't work so well. How do you set your camera for good colors at night? (HPX-170)

All you're doing is creating a baseline for the camera. You're going to go across a lot of different color temperatures during a night shoot. Neon signs, the lights in and on buildings, car lights and on and on. The camera will render those as what they are to the naked eye - as long as you've locked in the color temperature. You can play with the number, up or down if you like, but I'd stick to preset 3200.
