How do you select 24P? Should I?

I looked through the menu and couldn't find anything that said 60i or anything similar - maybe I missed it.

How do you change it to 24P, and is there any reason I shouldn't? (I use Premiere Pro 2.0)

I also have an HV-20, and I just got TMPGEnc 4 Xpress to remove the "pull down" from 24P mode (not entirely sure what that is, but I know it's not good). Anyone else have experience with this?

Amen,
Toby

Also - can you remove the pull down after you edit it all together or no? And.. do you have to remove it from DVX footage?
Thanks!

Okay, first you need to decide if you want to shoot 24p or 24pa. If you don't want to deal with the 2:3:3:2 pulldown in adobe, you should shoot 24p standard which has has the same motion as 24pa, but the only difference is that with 24p standard you edit in a 29.97 timeline. 24pa lets you keep your workflow only 23.98, but you must make sure you remove the pulldown. Basically if you want to edit with 30p footage along with 24p standard in the same timeline, then use 24p not 24pa. If you want the 23.98 footage and want to keep it 23.98 throughout your workflow, then shoot 24pa.

Okay you turn your camera on, hit the menu button, go to scene file , go all the way to the bottom below the skin tone setting(I think), there will be a 60i,30p,24p,and 24pa option in the pull down menu. Choose the one you want. Remember that scene file 6 is 24pa automatically. If your scene file knob is turned to anything, but f6(maybe f5, just look into the scene file settings), then its not going to be 24p. So say your in f2 and you go to the menu and change the (60i,24p,24pa,30p) from 60i or 30p to 24p, well that will work, but if you turn your camera off and back on, then it will revert back to the default setting you had(I'm guessing it will be the factory default setting since you didn't know how to change it). In order to keep the frame rate, you need to save it in the scene file setting after you change it. Then you will always have your desired frame rate on whatever knob you saved it to. Before you shoot shoot, its always good to go in the menu and make sure its the frame rate you want. Its worth the extra time to pass up the headaches in post while people are wondering what those annoying streaky lines are on your footage.
I have no experience with the hv20,sorry, but I do know there is a more complicated process. Do a search in the canon forum as I know this has been discussed in great length.
Good Luck,
David

That was fast, and perfect! Thanks! :)

One question though - I went to Scene File, it looks like the setting is called "Progressive" clicked it, picked 24P, then went to the bottom and clicked Save/Init (and clicked Yes), then it said save successful.

you mentioned F#'s - it says at the top Scene F4:B-STR - any idea what this means? Is this good? :)

Thanks again!!

You go from F1 to F6.

F5 and F6 are set default to 24p. The rest are all 29.97.

Read your manual, it will state when to use which setting when appropriate.

it just means that the factory default title stayed and that you didn't change the title. No problem. The manual has all the info you will need on the scene file. Really it only takes like 5 minutes. If ou don't know the little dial on the top of the camera rotates between f files.
