How do you record 23.97 SDI to KiPro Mini and monitor HDMI out? ( I don't care if it is from the camera or KiPro Mini )

If I set the dual link out I lose HDMI out. If I use the SDI out with pulldown I record 59.94

There is got to be a way, I just haven't found it.

I also posted it in the COW AJA KiPro forum, but I posted here 'cause I know that a lot of you own this camera, recorder combination.

I dont have a F3 but have run in to a similar problem with my AF100 and KiProMini. If it's crucial that I use my Zacuto EVF for monitoring I'll shoot 23.97 with the pulldown added (60i) and remove it in Compressor later. Yeah, its a pain. If Im shooting 30P the AF puts out a 60i stream over SDI anyways so monitoring is not a problem then. Wish I had a answer..

Both SDI and HDMI are always active on the AJA Mini. Go SDI out of camera go to menu select "24PsF output" instead of 60i. And use the HDMI out on Mini.

Now if your having trouble with a external viewfinder that is HDMI, it's because the VF can only can display a 60i signal,...If that's your problem then your out of luck. You need a SDI input viewfinder (Cineroid has now). It will display both 24FsP and 60i. I waited for SDI Cineroid for that very reason.

HDMI is more trouble that it's worth, we can thank the DLSR's for that and the VF company's aiming for those user first.

Ebay your finder and get a Cineroid SDI, or wait for whomever to do a SDI model.

Copying the reply that was posted to the Creative Cow forum where this question, as noted, was also posted:

If the output of the camera is 1080PsF 23.98 via HD-SDI, then you cannot monitor HDMI in the same format as HDMI does not support PsF signals, only true progressive. This would be true for either the Sony PMW-F3 or the Ki Pro Mini.

A better solution would be to use HD-SDI output on the camera and use HD-SDI output on the Ki Pro Mini for monitoring; then what you are monitoring and recording is the full signal path at 1080PsF 2.398. If you must use HDMI monitoring for some reason, such as a connection to an electronic viewfinder, then you would want to be sure that you are using firmware version 1.1 on the Sony PMW-F3. For some basic guidelines on this firmware and the use of electronic viewfinders, you might find this link, provided by Abel Cine, useful reading:

If you have any questions specific to the operation of the AJA Ki Pro Mini or other AJA products, don't hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support. The service is provided free of charge and is available Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm PST via phone or email.

record Psf on Ki Pro Mini with a Psf output from F3. The v1.1 firmaware upgrade will send a 60i signal out of the HDMI while sending the 23.97 Psf out of the hd sdi. HDMI will not output form the Ki Pro Mini while it is set to Psf.

Thank you guys. Sometimes the answer is so simple that you over look it.
Basically you set HDMI out instead of SDI and Dual Link 1.5 ..... SDI A out to KPM
You are still getting pulldown on the SDI out but 23.97 out of the SDI A out while enabling HDMI at 59.94

WOW, I was so surprise to get a call (in spanish non-the less) from AJA. I am sorry I didn't write down the name, but thank you anyway.
I didn't call for the info that I wanted 'cause I got my answer, but they still manage to find my phone number and call me. To be honest we sometimes forget we that kind of service was the norm.
AJA seems to be scanning this forums to know our needs.
Congratulations AJA, you are the best. Can't wait to get my Avid codec, hopefully before my production date 10-17-11.

Hello, I am having a similar problem with my set, which is:Sony F3 S-Log 1080 23.98PsF, through SDI OUT, to Aja KPM. I'm monitoring HD-SDI out from KPM on my SmallHD DP6 just fine, but I have to give HDMI to my wireless Tx (from Optitek) for my directors monitor, and with this I am having no luck, neither from the camera side, nor the Aja KPM. Settings on F3 is HD-SDI 1.5G422/S-Log. Firmware version on camera is 1.10. Any ideas, anyone?Regards,Øystein Mamen, FNF

Dang, I was hoping I did something wrong, so there could be a solution. (no composite, only HDMI, I'm afraid). Well, I guess I have to find a stop-gap HD-SDI to HDMI adapter, and get the signal out from the SmallHD to the Tx.Thank you so much for your reply, Villalba!
