How do you mount an H1 and a Shotgun mic on top of your DSLR?

I'm very interested in picking up an H1 to record dual system to and plug a shotgun mic into it, but haven't seen any good mounts to make this very possible.

Is anybody using something they would recommend for this? I still need to use the bottom 1/4" tripod screw for my shoulder rig/tripod so those brackets people use for flashes is out.

I imagine it would be something like a flat bar in the center with a cold shoe to the camera top and then two more cold shoes on the left and right, but I haven't seen anything like this. Is it out there?

What you mentioned is out there. Many different configurations. A more expensive version: the beachtek MultiMount 5D.

If you want to do it for the cost of the H1 only maybe try putting the H1 on a boom poll and record directly to the recorders mics. On camera mics will get good ambient sounds but in visual terms it would the same as shooting everything super wide. You need to get your mic close to the subject.
If you plug in a shotgun prepare to get a mixer and or preamp. You will get way up there in expenses quick. $1,000 to $1,600 easy. For a hundred bucks the H1 will give acquitted sound while planning a full blown audio package. Believe me I've been trying to Hot Rod these low cost audio alternatives and many are a waste of good money. Use the H1 and learn it's limitations before throwing more cash at it.
Better go to the audio section of this forum and get the hard facts from those guys. They are brutal and %100 correct.

Wow those are both pretty good options. Thanks! I know I'd be best off having a second person hold a boom, but just won't work with my 1 man crew (myself). More than anything moving from my old DVX to DSLR I want a way to hear what I'm recording with headphones which the H1 seems to do the trick.

If you plan ahead it is possible to get a mic close to your subject even if working alone. Not always the most practical, but better than on camera mounted mic for interviews. Since you have headphones you will hear what is being recorded. Good luck.
