Looking for a woman
I can't seem to motivate myself to finish a script i've been working on. I really want to do the movie, but i'm so tired after work I don't ever feel like doing much besides relaxing. Any suggestions on how to get going and complete it?

If you have been working hard, try giving yourself five days or a week to just relax. Then go back to work on it.

Sometimes you can only hammer yourself so hard for so long, before you *have* to have a break, and can come back and be more productive.

Maybe you should sit down and watch a film that inspires you to get working. So afterwards you're thinking "Right, now I have to get MY film done".

Go ahead and schedule your first shoot day -- nothing like a little pressure! ;)

:violin:

just end up watching all kinds of lubitsch.

Or you could strip down to your boxers and a wife beater, sip on some rum and coke, and just bang it out baby!

Whenever I feel stuck or no longer motivated, I read Rebel Without A Crew. Robert Rodriguez' constantly upbeat attitude is all I've ever needed to get excited about movie making again.

Get up earlier and work on it in the AM. If you commute to work you might take a recorder with you to record ideas.

Sometimes you just need to step away from it for a while. Take a breather, and stuff it in the closet for a week, then read it again. It might just give you a fresh take on what you are trying to accomplish.

Yep, can be tough to get excited, but enthusiasm is somthing you create not somthing you find. All things great and small good and evil were created with enthusiasm.

Get up one hour earlier to devote some time and get excited about your project.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

In an effort to finally lose some more weight, I have started running on the treadmills that my Apartment complex offers. The pounds are slowly coming off, but I was amazed at the new energy I was getting. I used to have a hard time squeezing in a half hour of productivity after work. (to do things like dishes or laundry much less a script.) Now I can do about 3 hours of productive stuff after work. It's strange how working out can give me energy instead of tiring me out. However, I still have a hard time doing production work for me, after spending all week doing production work for my employer.

Truer words have never been spoken.

You just have to push yourself and say f it, I need to work. if you REALLY want it you will.

EDIT: Im working 13 hours a day and still get three hours in a day with my daughter.

The Henry Miller approach. Although I think that also requires moving to Paris.

It is the natural process of the creative mind.... recognize that and you're halfway there.

We all hit mountains on our paths... sometimes sitting at the base will only convince you that it's too hard to climb...

Step back and regroup. Find your goal again - you'll find the path.

I've discovered that I am really not a great writer. I can come up with a storyline, a structure, character's, etc. But putting it on a page I am not good at. Therefore I've surrounded myself with others who are talented writers.

I'm not sure where you are located, but I would try to find a writer's group in your area. Nothing has helped me as much as my group. They have become some of my best friends and they are always there to give me a kick in the pants when I need one.

It depends on where you are stuck. If you have a solid beginning, middle, and end, then motivation is the problem.

If you're unclear on where the script is going, then the story needs help. A common mistake is to come up with a great idea and start pounding out the script without knowing how it is going to end. If you don't know what the end is going to be, stop immediately. Diagram the story out with descriptions of Act I, II, and III with the two plot points connecting the acts.

I made such an error working on a recent script. I became totally hung in the middle because I didn't know what the ending was going to be. By stopping and determining these elements, the script almost wrote itself!
