How do you import?

I've recently purchased a HVX, and I look forward to using it. I've used it for clients, but they've either had card readers or used PCs, which apparently are easier to import with. I use a Mac.

I can't afford a card reader. I hear firewire is extremely flakey, but USB isn't? Does this mean USB straight from the camera?

I've heard some use P2CMS, but I know the client with the card reader doesn't, he copies right from the card to the harddrive and formats. I also know there are other card readers, internals and such, but again, they're for PC.

So, what do you use to import?

Do a quick search of archives as this is a very common question and there are tons of answers over the last few years. Your best bet is the Panasonic $350 card reader. You say you can't afford a reader? Then dump it off directly from the camera. Should be instructions in your manual. But I recommend the card reader and smooth sailing from there.

USB to Camera. Still can use P2CMS. It copies and verifies the card media onto your computer. Back up the entire card always.

I suggest you read the manual for the camera and learn P2 workflow for the Mac. There are plenty of tutorials available.

Thank you. I've read up on the workflow before, but had issues, and I know there are different methods, so I thought I'd see what others with experience prefer.

I personally use a Nexto DI NVS2500, It's a On The Go Hard drive with a preview screen and a P2 slot to offload right on set. Love it! It's faster than USB and so much better. You even bypass P2CMS with the Log the disk creates. The itch? The Price... Over a grand.
