How do you guys transfer footage?

all you need is a firewire port. Using a capture card your transmitting actual pictures playing live. (theoretically less quality) Using fire wire your transferring 0s and 1s which is exactly whats on the tape.

I believe what Dvx Kid was saying was - using a cheap handycam that accepts MiniDV tapes to capture your footage to your computer is better than using your DVX to capture the footage in the sense that you will cut down on the amount of contact between the heads inside your DVX and the tape.

This.

...I've heard that people use their DVX to capture and haven't had any problems, but IMO it's not worth the risk. I use my old HandyCams for this.

You don't lose any quality by capturing with a crappy camcorder - the information is all written to the tape and you're just using said crappy camcorder to transfer, digitally, the information on the tape into the computer. The quality of the capture cam is irrelevant.
