How do you guys store your gear at home?

I'm moving into a new house and would like a clever and clean way to store all of my gear. Do you guys have any links to great storage units you would recommend that look good?

How much gear do you have, what's on your on screen listing or much more? Will it fit into a Storm Case, or take up a whole room?

hard to beat a closet ; )

david's answer is right on. it depends on what youre storing and how much of it. so its really tough to give a blanket answer...

i built this big hutch with a fold down desk a few years ago that i eventually repurposed into a gear locker. it holds all my cameras, my kessler crane, 3 tripods, a slider, small light boxes, monitor case, laptop case and a couple backpacks. so if youre a handy guy you can always build to suit.

or maybe find an old armoire or something and repurpose it...

great eye kevin!

but thats a bassman ten combo. easy mistake since the table obscures half the 4x10 cab.
either way, it is very tasty, thanks! i use it more as a guitar rather than bass amp (actually it gets some mileage from both). it has the warmest clean tone ive heard for electric guitar shy of a roland jazz chorus.

and yeah. its a little more meat than needed on a day to day basis. just an artifact from my more rowdy days ; )

I leave everything in the truck parked out front, anything else I leave in the garage on some racks and milk crates. And for the cheap stuff thats broken and I don't care on fixing I throw them in those plastic storage boxes, for parts in the future.
Thats just for lighting gear that is, but milk crates are really awesome to have for storage even for camera equipment.

I got some shelving units from Home depot, they aren't really nice looking, but there are some fancier ones if they will be in an office room or something

A bassman 10 is even cooler! The supers are soooo loud and a have a bit too much treble for me.

Love it. The only amp I have left now is a fender chorus amp, but I'm on the hunt for a silver face vibro champ as a keeper.

Great stuff.

Love your hutch/desk as well! Great work

I'm on the hunt for a silver face vibro champ as a keeper.

The only amps I have left after my son borrowed everything, are 3 different champs that I kept out of his hands. They are great for recording! I keep different speaker/tube combos on hand and change them out depending on the sound I'm after.

I posted this in a different thread... I generally keep my gear in racks inside my van. I also have storage racks in my studio where I store items, and have found that my marriage works out better if I don't store items in the house where my wife can see them.

Yeah, I've been through a bunch of amps, but always had an old vibro champ on my mind as the perfect amp to have forever.

It's small enough to take with you and be played anywhere, but still sounds amazing and can really bring it when driving the right speaker combination.

They can also still be had for cheap(~$350)

I'll make a thread and post pictures when I finally snag one :love4:

cheers to my guitar playing bretheren - but i think we've hijacked the OP's thread a bit. although that sprinter is about the best looking and most effective storage unit ive seen. even at $30k ; )

indeed.

Yes, David, that sprinter truly is beautiful. Really, really well done.

I'm in various pelicans and many more various soft camera bags, but my stuff is a mess and I'm looking to organize as soon as I move.

something else i might suggest from personal experience (depending on your volume of gear) is THE RIGHT retail storage space. at one point, i'd found a gated storage place right on the way out of my neighborhood that had a like 5x15 foot, climate controlled unit about two spaces inside the door (where people always conveniently dumped the dollys!) and that worked beautifully for a couple of years.

since most of my shoots started very early. i'd just pull up by the door, leave the engine running and cart stuff from the unit to the truck. and be in and gone in about 4 min! freed up a closet and part of my garage.

it all hinges on THE RIGHT (or right-ish) unit being available. if you have to park, turn off, lock your car, go up an elevator... etc... the value of that plan goes away IMMEDIATELY

ooof herman miller. so nice, so pricey

It looks great and I guarantee the build quality is phenomenal,

But I'd rather have a 5d MKIII than a shelf to keep it on

Do you permanently keep your camera gear in your van? Or do you just keep your lighting/grip gear like this? Do you park it in a garage? Air conditioned?

A dual-thread!

Nothing beats a spare closet of course. Stick shelves in there and you're good.

I do like those stackable, wheeled black footlockers that walmart & amazon sell for basic storage. I just have too much gear though.

And... I really love the little Egnater Tweaker amp. That thing is a gas to play with. All kinds of sounds, all tube, no modeling. Won't do metal but everything else, pretty nice.

Michael, I saw your post in that other recent storage thread about these walmart cases and all the other info you had was fantastic as well.

Definitely going to keep that post handy to get some cases.

I also love all the egnater stuff I've tried! Great company

Thanks, those are nice and cheap "local" cases - I wouldn't fly one! But they're dirt cheap, they roll and stack, and they won't embarrass you on set, which is nice.
