How do you film for slow motion?

I'm looking for the effect where it's just slowed down a touch a la Scorsese.

I thought you'd just slow it down in the editing program but it looks choppy. I filmed at 24 frames, should I be filming at 30 or 60? Would I set my editing timeline to 30 if I film it in 30? (Premeire)

For mild slow motion, shoot at 30p. Then edit on a 24p timeline, and tell Premiere to play back the footage at 80% speed.

I'm wondering what is best to achieve best result with slow motion. Which of these technique work best: (Im using HVX200)

1- Recording set-up at 720p/60p, shoot everything normaly. Then slow it down in AE

or

2- Recording set-up at 720p/24pn, shoot in "film cam" at 60 fps with a shutter speed of 1/120 or 1/1000. Then slow it down even more in AE if needed.

Also, I heard a lot about twixtor plug-in. Is it the only good software (Plug-in) for slow motion or some others new plug-in may be better?

Thanks!

I was wondering am also wonder about your sequence settings when you make these changes...So set your camera at 60fps shutter 1/120 and slow the footage down to 62% in post...BUT is your sequence in for your video editing program set at 30fps or 24 fps or 60fps?

Individual cameras (especially non-professional cameras) vary a lot on how they handle custom fps and shutter speeds. And different NLEs also handle playback speed manipulation differently.

I strongly recommend doing some tests, shooting similar action several different ways with your camera, then experimenting with playing it back in your NLE.

As for things like Twixtor, I've heard it's great for what it does, but is no substitution for filming the slo-mo action properly in the first place.
