How do you create this effect in Avid

Hi All,
I am trying to create this transition effect in Avid and don't know how to do it.
During the transition from 1st segment to 2nd segment, the gain (or exposure or white) has to be very high for few frames and then the rest of the segment plays normal. It is like transitioning to the 2nd segment with a flash of light.

Could some body please help. Thanks.

Using Avid Express pro 5.7

Try the fade to color transition effect and in the effects editor click the small box next to the eye dropper and change the color to white. this should give the desired effect.

if you want it faster you can play with acceleration or make marks (press n) to set different stages of your effect. if this is something you already know then sorry to be redundant just thought it might help if you didn't know how.

making a transition?

making a transition?

how does the "n" work? what does it do?

Search out an AVX plugin called "DMN Transfer". It's a free though no longer updated plugin that gives you the capability of compositing with transfer modes (like in AE or Photoshop) in Avid.

(PS: the plugin only works on PC-based Avids and non-Intel-Mac Avids)

Anyway, once you have the plugin installed, try the following:

Go to the cut between clip 1 and clip 2. Step back a few frames (3 or 4 is what I would usually do), and use the Add Edit command to create a splice on the empty track above the track that contains your clips. Step forward past the cut between your clips (again, 3 or 4 frames, whatever works for you) and add another edit on the empty track. This will create a short piece of filler.

Drag the DMN Transfer effect from the effects bin and drop it on the little chunk of filler. Switch modes to something like Add or Screen--you'll see the effect immediately. Now, you can either add dissolves to either end of this little clip, or you can keyframe it--that's my preference.

You'd set a keyframe right in the middle of the effect clip, above the edit point between your two clips--this is going to be the maximum of the effect. Then, at the keyframes at the beginning and end of the effect clip, scale the effect down to 0--I can't remember the parameters, but there's only a couple sliders to play with. So, you basically have a ramp that goes 0 > 100 > 0. The brightest flash will occur at the edit point between your video clips.

You can also copy and paste and then stuck multiple instances of this effect clip above one another, if the effect isn't quite "enough". I'd usually collapse the multiple instances down using the Collapse function, so it's one nice, neat clip that you can copy and paste at other transitions, as well.

Enjoy!

are you just looking for a white flash? if so what i did was make a white blank page in photoshop and then saved to my harddrive so when ever i need it i just call it up, i did it with black also.

i downloaded the bullnose and transfer plugin are those the ones you were talking about?

I love this forum.. You guys have been a great help.
Finally found how to do this effect. Thank you all.

To anybody looking for this effect, here's the link. Scroll to the bottom; even though it says you have to be registered on the DMN forums, they're just straight links to the ZIP files--download away and you'll be in business.

PS: This plug-in has quite a few more applications as well. It works just like transfer modes in AE, so it opens up a certain degree of compositing capabilities within the Avid. It's a little slow, but some of the results are nice.

do i have to have after affects in my computer inorder for this plugin to work? cuz i tried the plugin and it did not work. i dont have after effects could that be the reason it didnt work?

No, this is an Avid-only AVX plugin. The plug-in is kind of old, and no longer updated, so it will only work on PC-based Avids and Mac Avids with PowerPC processors--no Intel Macs.

i hava a pc with intel inside maybe thats it. i really wanted to use it too. any way i can get to work?

PC will work fine--it's just the Mac-tels that won't work.

I can't remember if it's an installer or not, but all you should have to do is drop the AVX file (it'll be a little plug icon, I think) in C:\Program Files\Avid\AVX Plugins and relaunch the Avid. (I don't remember the exact directory, as I no longer have/work on Avid, but it's somewhere in that vicinity). When you relaunch, in your effects panel there should be a group called DMN Transfer or Transfer AVX, and the effect itself will be there. If it's not showing up, it's might just be in the wrong folder.

I will try that. thanks i didnt knw that i had to shut down and restart, when i didnt see it i just turned it off and went to bed. but i did have some questions: Thank you have helped out alot. ive never used afeter affects thats why i had so many questions. you did make everything seem so simple. i do weddings and i put a animation on track one but ive noticed that it always seems that the animation is in the foreground and not the background. when i read the description on the dmn site it seems that this plugin fixes that. so my question to you is, so i put the animation on v1 and video on v2 and titles on v3 and the plugin on v4 is that correct? also i noticed when i put the animation on v1 video on v2 and video on v3 the superimpose never worked rite will this plugin fix that? final question, you mentioned, "you can use the same clip and use a mode like Overlay to get a really cool, saturated filmish look". i shoot with the dvc80 pv-dv952/953 so there is no 24p but if i were to use this method would it help give it the 24p look? but does this mean i would copy the entire thing and put ontop to get this look, how many video layers am i looking at? v1 for animation, v2 for video v3 for copied video, v4 for titles and v5 for the plug in wow is that correct? ok i got the transfer effect work i love it, it will come in handy. couldnt get the bullnose work, do you know if the bullnose effect works with the plasma wipes at the same time or only one or the other? if i cant use both at the same time i can do with out the bullnose.

thanx

You'd dig genarts Sapphire's glow.
BCC's glow is fine too. You can create a poor boy glow with nested brightness and defocus effects stacked as filler of a quick 4 frame dissolve. dissove in and out of that stacked effect and you'll have a lil glow transistion that cost nada and you get to stay within the application.
That's the trick to a quick session... doing as much in Avid as possible.

dmn?

dmn?

is that done with the dmn? does the bullnose only work with ae?

:dankk2:
