How do you carry your lenses around during a shoot?

Given DSLR users are more than likely to have more than one lens, I am curious what others do. I switch lenses quite a bit during a shoot. Right now we shoot 2 7D cameras and have two Canon camera bags that each have 4 lens in them (and 1 one the camera).

This is what my bag mostly looks like without lenses and you can see where 4 go and my camara:

(look at the image that shows the opt of the bag under View Large Image)

So, I carry the shoulder bag around and swap out when I need to. It works okay, but sometimes I am running with just two lenses and end up not really knowing a good way to carry them.

I had contemplated designing something like Chewbacca wears that I can sling cross my chest that has four or five round containers. Then, I could also leave the lens cap in the spots as well.

Or a vest?

Ideas?

I recently picked up a Think Tank Media 20 camera bag. It has is a belt pack as well as an over the shoulder, my opinion the best run and gun bag out there.
They make a smaller Media 10 as well.

Tip for using the bag: It has two shoulder straps that you can criss cross over your chest with the belt pack on your hip, behind you or better still if you want the bag as a camera support for your rig, rest it on the bag in front of you. Great for from the hip shooting with a viewfinder camera like the GH1.

I usually wear a multi-pocket waistoat.
Two lenses usually go in each big pocket, spare batteries in two others and my card safe in a third.
If I need to cary a spare pullover it goes in the back along with a water bottle.
Sometimes I'll use a Lowepro trecker day pack / photo rucksack

I have the same bag, a client gave me one as a bonus after a wedding shoot. I fill that thing pretty full and usually have flash accessories or lenses in my pockets, depending on what I'm shooting (video or photo). It's definitely not ideal, but it works. My H4n has a belt clip anyway so I don't need to fit that anywhere, if I have any other audio equipment it stays on me- headphones around the neck, for example. For weddings I usually have the H4n clipped on the right, the receiver for the wireless clipped next to it, headphones around my neck when not in use, camera also around my neck if it's not on the tripod already, the bag full of lenses (which is fine once the camera is out). It looks pretty awesome.

got the case at Goodwill. Got the foam at craft store. The foam was that blue/green stuff but I dyed it black and cut it with steak knife.

BTW, I think case was $10 ;)

pelican cases with $20 for 4' by 7' foam bought at wal mart (foam mattress padding glued together with rubber cement). same as what i put my cameras in.

Nice!!! I'd like to see if I could order extra dividers in that!! If I did something that looked like this |\|\|\| I could probably get 6 or more lenses in there pretty easily. I like very much!

You just pointed out the one flaw, the bag is very frugal with the Velcro. You may end up having to stitch the dividers together to the vertical inserts for that.
