How do you capture analog video into FCP Studio

I'm running into a logjam. I bought an analog to digital converter from Datavideo-tek.com about 3 years ago. It worked great allowing me to capture old C-VHS tapes into FCP.

For some reason, it's not working any longer. The only thing that's changed is that I upgraded to Final Cut Studio 2 a couple months ago.

The converter is now discontinued and I can't seem to get any support from DataVideo. The model of the converter is DAC-100. I think it cost a couple hundred when I bought it.

Does anyone have a good solution for digitizing old VHS? Or do you know how to make this DAC work?

Those were pretty popular - and reliable - DV bridges. Don't know why it would have stopped working. They've updated to a newer model since that one.

But, I prefer not to use a bridge for analog footage. Rather, I use my DVCAM deck (you can use a camcorder) to make a DV dub of the tape. It's added time, but when it comes down to it, it gives me a solid source tape with TC that allows me log and capture, and I can recapture from batch lists later with no issues.

If you have a VCR with video out, you can wire it to an input on a DV deck or camera. Then FireWire it in as non controlled device. Or transfer it to DVD via a DVD/VHS combo unit.
