How do they do the steady car outside shot?

You know...the shot where the car is moving and the camera is like 15 feet away and it is as if the camera is fixed to the car filming it but it isn't...how do they do that!?

The car will often be on a flatbed truck with the camera hanging off the side/front/back on scaffolding. Sometimes a second vehicle with a steadycam rig chases/leads the subject car. Alternatively for the Initial D live action movie they used light weight cameras in fixed position on long booms attached to the vehicle to get some interesting shots.

In reality shows we use a Steadicam in a follow car. Sometimes more than one. Sometimes a small camera is fixed to the opposite side of the picture car.

I mean like in the commercials? Not TV. In commercials it's like a 2 second shot looks really cool...

Rig is bolted to the underside of the car, wide lens , then mask out the rig in post.

This. I've set many cameras on speedrail rigs like this for car commercials.

The Kia spot looks real to me, not CGI. 5 years ago it would have been real for sure, these days it could go either way.

If you pause here and there in the video and look at the surroundings like the windows of the buildings and the trees, you can see that its 3d modelling all the way. There are maybe 2 or 3 actual shots in there
