How do the colored lines on a football field work?

Hi,

please forgive me, as this is really not on any topic here, I know. But I simpy don´t know where to ask else.

So, can anyone explain to me how it is possible for the tv stations to overlay the colored ten yards marking lines onto the football field without them overlaying the players aswell?
I can´t get my head around it and I´m starting to believe that it is magic!

Thanks!

I don't know how it's done, but the ground is a pretty solid known color, either green or white. So it seems like that could be keyed. Hopefully someone here knows for sure, I'd also like to find out.

it is a mix of motion tracking and color and frame differencing management, all in realtime.

it is an easy process , you just need a lot of simple calculation to be done really fast.

You know what makes that look like kid stuff is the realtime tracking stuff they did in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
