How do I use the ABB function?

I'm confused by the manual. After setting white balance, the manual suggests setting Black Balance. Do I need to get a black card and fill the frame with it as I do to set WB, or can I just leave the white card in place?

Just hold down the white balance button, you don't need to do anything else, the camera will close the iris and balance for you. It does not matter what you are pointed at.

Thanks KK. After reading your answer, I feel pretty foolish. Of course, I never had a camera that offered Black Balancing. I wonder why it doesn't just do it automatically without our help? :)

Yeah, the manual doesn't really explain what this is for. Should we all black balance weekly? Are there certain symptoms to look out for that indicate we need to black balance?

I did notice that the contrast improved. I may do it on the third Thursday of every month just for good luck. :)

You don't need to do it very often. Once when you first get the camera and then only if the camera is sitting un-used for a long period of time.

I could be wrong -- but I seem to remember the manual recommending it whenever you switch recording modes -- like from PH 720/60P to PH 1080/24. That's what I've been doing -- mainly because I'm paranoid about noise (that tends to be worse in darker areas) -- and that may or may not be related and I may or may not be just plain stupid.
