HELP!

I rented a Merlin and I own several other pieces of hardware that I need to switch between. But I can't even start balancing this thing until I figure my mounting out.

I have a Manfrotto 577/501PL quick release plate that I am using on all my equipment, my slider and my tripod.

If I mount the 577 plate to the Merlin blue plate with the letters on it, I have to move the 577 plate quite a bit over to one side otherwise the tightening knob on the plate gets in the way. No problem.

However The tightening knob sticks down and hits the Merlin 's stage plate. So I cannot physically put the plate onto the merlin and tighten it down. I don't understand! But I have seen it done in several videos, however nothing that actually explains how to do it. Thank you.
