I have it set to view as AVCHD and I try to open them and it tells me file format not supported. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

If you seriously don't have AVCHD listed, check your installation; it should be one of the presets (and there should be presets for 1080p, 1080i, 720p, etc).

You import the files by either dragging the .mts files right to the bin, or to the timeline, or you use the media browser to point at the PRIVATE directory, which it'll then navigate into and automatically display all the clips in the folder.

yeh i just checked my cs4 and it has both avchd and avc intra listed...so maybe u need to reinstall it or sumn.

Thanks Barry. It is the trial version. After I downloaded it I updated to 4.2.1 with no problem. The AVCHD preset just isn't there. Ill try it again.

It's probably because of the trial version; sometimes certain codecs are disabled in trial versions because the company has to pay royalties on those codecs, so it'd be included in the retail version. I don't know that that's the case here, but ... it's definitely supported in the retail/full version.

I had the trial version for a little while before activating, and I can confirm AVCHD presets are not in it.

I also had the trial version and it did not have AVCHD. I then activated it and after the next Adobe Update was run AVCHD magically appeared.

Have you tried enabling and running the Adobe Update Manager?
