How do I know if I buy from a legitamate seller? Is there a way to find out before I shell out a ton of cahs to someone? Are there any techniques any of you use?
I am a little nervous to buy a dvx off of the internet from an individual and I would like to be reassured a bit :-)

Thanks!

i ALWAYS try to buy locally on here, but ya, get info from the guy, phone numbers, address's and what not. most expensive thing we have bought on here was only 200 bucks though, so didnt take a real risk yet.

If they have an Ebay account, you can send them an email through the Ebay mail system. If they have lots of positive feedbacks, that's usually a good indication that they're honest. I also prefer to use Paypal, which can provide protection against fraudalent transactions.

Just like at the bank, your mantra is: no credit - no money. Also consider the source: here you can see a persons "audit trail" over a period of time. ebaY also has that paridgm, although beware of private EMAILs (outside ebay) where someone charades as another. So when it comes to craigslist, you're really out in the wild frontier - buyer beware (even face-to-face transitions can be dicey). In fact, you'll find scammers on craigslist supposedly selling video gear as "local" in your area, yet post the identical gear as local in dozens of different cities! Coincidence? (I think not)

In summary - no credentials, no sale.

Regards, Michael
