I have a Sony F3 that does not have the S-log, I have had it for years but now I'm curious on how to add S-log, I purchased this camera when it first came out and back then the F3 did not come with S-log.

thanks

Updating to the latest firmware should give you S-Log as a color profile. This link has those color profiles withe settings matched up to the non-color profile version of SLog: http://blog.abelcine.com/2012/06/28/new-f3-firmware-adds-s-log-to-every-camera/

Alternatively, to use the traditional S-Log feature on the F3, you need a CBK-RGB01 key. They sell new for around $1,000 or used for about $500 to $600, and come with a 32GB SxS-1 Card.

Given that the F3 is so old, you might have luck cold calling Sony retailers and asking for clearance pricing. If they still have any, they probably want them off the shelf. They'll tend to take the retail price money if you offer it, but if they don't think it's likely to sell at all, they may be willing to take considerably less.

with an external recorder slog1 still looks great as 422/10 bit footage.

thanks for the link.

be well.

Using Slog as a picture profile gives you the advantage of being able to white balance the camera instead of just choosing between 3200 and 5600 presets. The 444 card is only worth it if you also plan to buy a recorder that will handle 444 and you don't mind huge files. So by all means just get the firmware upgraded . simple . Re the abel cine modified Slog looks. I would experiment with it quite a bit for going that way. It may work fine but its an un orthodox way to use Slog and my understanding is that you can dangerously oversaturate colors by shooting log that is not desaturated in the camera.
Biggest problem with Slog i the F3 was that the monitor LUT's are 1 D only which are desaturated. Nowadays with something like an Odyssey 7Q you can put the LUT in the recorder and use it for monitoring or for recording directly . You might have to work a bit to find a good slog1 LUT though.
