I normally shoot 24p advanced, and I am wondering what is the best way to get 29.97. Should I shoot in regular 24p or can I shoot in Advance and just use fcp capture settings to get plain old 29.97. Please advice, thank you.

Depends on what you mean by "29.97". If you want the interlaced video look of 59.94i video, then turn "progressive" to "OFF".

So you want 24p footage that could be edited on the same timeline as 60i interlaced footage? In that case, don't shoot 24pA, shoot regular 24p.

No, I don't use FCP so I don't know. If you don't get an answer here, try asking in our dedicated FCP forum, I'm sure someone will help you out.

If what you are asking is if you can capture with another camera, say cheap consumer, then yes no problem, even 24p advanced is recorded in standard 60i stream that any standard dv camera can playback. If 24p is what you want, no need to change workflow.
