How do I get in?

This past weekend, I interned in Daytona Beach, FL, and I had the BEST time! I was at a youth conference down there, and there were a couple thousand people there. I'd never done any sort of live event like this, and it was a blast! I was the on stage camera guy for a few of the sessions (including the concert), and I was lugging around a JVC HD200 all over the place. It was heavy and LOUD ( the camera, and concert, respectively). I didn't want it to end. The question is: what is that kind of position called, and how do you get in to something like that?

I guess it's one of those "who you know" things. I was asked if I'd come and help with this by my old youth pastor, and I got bumped to the stage. I was pretty excited. Unfortunately, that was FL, and I live in OKC. The commute was just too big for me. How do I even look for jobs like that?

Try Craigslist or advertise your services in newspaper classifieds. My old classmate has a wedding business. He's in the yellow pages (but I'm sure that cost a lot of money).

Sometimes that's all it takes to start a career. Right place, right time, right person. Congrats on the start! Your resume has begun to be built.

Of course you know, videography is an expensive habit/hobby/career. Learn to use what you have, then you can appreciate the benefits of gear that is a bit more $$. You will thank me for this advice later.

PS: DIY gear can really give good results.

Ick, weddings! Can be good money, but the headaches just ain't worth it to me.
