How do I get date and time recorded on tape?

Well, I know this is backwards from what most people want, but how do I get the date and time burn-in to show on the tape for the HVX-200?

I have been doing some legal depositions for a lawyer friend of mine, but I can't figure out how to get the burn-in.

I am editing with Premiere, so maybe there's also a way to turn this on within Premiere?

Thanks for any help on this!

The HVX200 series doesn't have a time-stamp capability to burn the time&date into the footage. That was something that was added to the next generation of cameras (HPX170 & HMC150) but the HVX itself doesn't have it.

You can make it happen by using an external recorder (hooked up to the composite outputs or, I think you can do it with a DVD recorder hooked up to the firewire) but you can't do it directly to the tape.

You should be able to do it in post though, but you'd have to check with the lawyer as to whether that would be legal and admissable in court. As I understand it, part of the date/time burn-in is to prove that the footage hasn't been modified in post...

I've been doing a search for Mini-DV recorders, but I only seem to come up with the large decks, where can I find small, cheap mini-dv recorders?

Decks usually start at $1000-$1500+. Sony used to make a little portable clamshell deck, etc.

Cheapest deck is a little DV palmcorder camera with a firewire input on it.
