Can I only edit 1080 footage from the HDX in 60i in Final Cut Pro? If there is no DVCPRO 24p codec how do I edit my footage in Final Cut? Do I use someone else's 24p codec? Does Blackmagic have one?
Do you mean HVX 24p in Final Cut Pro? - Well, in any case; you just match your timeline sequence format to what you`re shooting with. If you're shooting DVCPRO 24 at 50 mbit, you should use thoose setting in FCP before placing *any* footage in it. It's quite easy. If you have 3 or 4 formats to choose from when configuring your sequencesettings in FCP, just try them one at a time, all of them will work. But you're looking for that one setting that saves you from rendering your untouched content in the Timeline.
Yeah, sorry HVX. But there is no native panasonic codec for 1080 24p footage. So how do you actually edit at 24 fps in Final Cut Pro? You have to use the 1080 60i codec with the 3:2 pulldown right? What if you want to go to film and want to edit 24 fps video instead of 60i? Do I have to use another codec provided by another company? Then using a program to remove the 3:2 pulldown and transcoding from the DVCPRO codec to something else?
I ask the same question for the PAL version. Since we do not have 720p60, will users of FCP-Hd 4.5 be able to edit footage shot with the HVX, or Apple will force us to upgrade to FCP 5.0, or whatever version is coming next?
Apple should be reading this forum as well, so that they know what we need.
Why upgrade to FCP 5.0 if we only want the codec? I don't think it would be that hard to release a codec for FCP-HD users.
It's news to me that you can't edit 24p in 1080 resolution in Final Cut Pro. Even in version 4.5 I believe this is possible. You may not see it in the preset list, but take a look at this setting.
Will FC recognize and understand the advance pulldown of 24p in the 1080i material without an upgrade? I've asked this about FC and Avid before, but no one seems to know the answer.
I don't believe there was ever advanced pulldown before in the 1080i DVCPRO 100 codec, though I may be wrong...
So even though the compressor says 1080i you can use it for 24p editing? This goes back to a previous post of mine. I read that the HDX will not record 24p files to the P2 cards and I did not see a 1080p codec just a 720p codec. I just want to understand the camera's capabilities fully before I decide if I buy one or not.
Yeah, I guess these HD formats aren't really 1920 * 1080. Isn't HDCAM 1440 * 1080 or something like that?
How are the pixels maniupulated using these codecs? In post I guess we should be using a fully uncompressed HD codec when applying effects? Which is of course typical for SD as well.
Upon further research, I think we're going to have to wait and see how Panasonic implements 1080/24p and how Final Cut Pro works with it or not. And if not, then how it works with it in the future.
For me, I'll be shooting in 720/24p for awhile. The bandwidth required for 1080 is freakin massive and makes two 8GB cards seem like 32MB of RAM in my computer.
Regarding Uncompressed for post, I aim to do all editing and effects work in DVCPRO HD for speed, then for final export, I'll change the sequence setting to Uncompressed, then export a master file.
