How do I dump P2 cards to a HDD connected to my camera?

Hello,

I would like to be able to directly connect a USB drive in the field to dump P2 cards to, erase the cards and continue shooting. Every USB drive I connect shows up as a Red HDD icon on my camera screen. I cannot transfer any P2 card footage to the HDD because that menu option is ghosted. My camera is in USB Host mode and PC mode is on. I have tried two different hard drives and I get the same error message. What is the problem here? I would like to be able to dump my cards in the field without a Nexto or a laptop. Thanks!

Yes I would format the hard drive via the camera to make sure it is compatible.

I use small 160gb usb drives as std with my system but always re-format them on the camera before re-use.

Note you can also set the camera to verify the data once it is copied and if you are planning to erase and re-use I would do this for safety.

As has been said, format the drive using the camera for formatting. Every USB drive I've ever hooked up to my camera has worked fine,
after first formatting.

I use a Toshiba canvio 500GB USB 3 drive.
I works without any problems. The drive is correctly formatted via the Camera.

My steps are the same.

What kind of HDD is it? I know for sure that any WD portable drive should work, I have even tried it with a 1.5TB freeagent and it worked just fine.

I know this may sound stupid but I will ask anyway, do you have it plugged into the correct USB socket on the camera as there are two, one for host and one for device?

Do I use the Host connector? That's what I've been doing, I thought that my camera needs to be the host, and dump to the connected hard drive as a "device"
